Project Overview: Chowman!
Chowman, a Chinese restaurant chain based in Kolkata, has 13 outlets in Kolkata and new branches in Bengaluru and other cities. Chowman partnered with iCoderz to develop a feature-enhanced food delivery application to improve customer relations and the organization of food delivery services.
It enables users to order food and manage their orders by personalizing meals and selecting varied payment methods — bringing the authentic taste of real Asian cuisine to every doorstep.

Requirements
The client wanted a strong mobile application capable of customer ordering and delivery tracking. They needed the app to appeal to many customers so users could customize orders.
The app also required basic features such as users' preferences, reordered favourite meals, and multiple payment gateways for the in-app wallet. The delivery management and timely notification had to be enhanced to increase user value.
Application Development Challenges & Solutions
High Server Load
Chowman processes a high number of orders daily, causing poor performance during traffic hours. This leads to order synchronization problems with Pet Pooja and server load issues in order processing.
We set up a load balancer to share incoming traffic among various servers. This reduced server burden during peak times and guaranteed that if one server went down, the others could take over — increasing system availability and reliability.
Lost Chat Images
While using the support chat, some images were lost during customer interactions. This impacted the quality of communication and played an important role in user satisfaction.
Chat images were moved to AWS S3 buckets so all images would be safely stored in the chat database and easily accessible, even if the server changed due to load balancing.
Database Load Management
Frequent read-and-write operations on the database caused performance issues. Database performance was critical to the overall speed of the application.
We selected Amazon Aurora with various read replicas to balance database load. We also optimized the API side to minimize the frequency of database queries and increase overall efficiency.
Fraud Prevention & Security
Some discount coupons were automatically applied without proper verification. Users could place orders but not complete payments online, raising questions about the ordering process security.
We added server-side validation ensuring all critical data — prices, quantities, and transaction parameters — is validated on the server level rather than the client side, allowing only server-authorized transactions to be processed.
